When you pray, let it be the prayer of one bidding farewell

We should try to depart from the world in the very best of states. Each time we pray, we should think to ourselves that this could be our final prayer. Therefore, it could well be the last gift that we will present to Allah from this world. Will it be precious and priceless, or will it be base and cheap?

Imagine that your death has occurred. Imagine the people throwing dust on your grave. Imagine that you are lying in your grave. Imagine being resurrected and brought forth to the place of great gathering. Imagine your account being read. Such imaginations will help to imprint the reality of death and realities associated with the afterlife on your heart. A lot of Muslims do not think about these things and they become very distant and abstract. For this reason reflection on reality of death is one of the most important aspects of our religion Islam. Allah says in the Quran, “Say, the death you are fleeting from will surely meet you…” (62:7)
